Billings, MT
With the blast of a bullhorn, the Carter family of Billings opened their door to see Ty Pennington and the rest of the cast and crew from the hit reality TV show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Hearing they were chosen for Montana's one and only build was an answer to their prayers.
For years, the Carters have been struggling with mounting medical
bills that have reached the half-million dollar mark. Mother, Julie
Carter, and her 21-year-old daughter, Jade, both suffer from a rare
congenital defect known as Chiari Malformation. Julie's two other
daughters, Saphire and Chalce haven't been officially diagnosed but are
showing symptoms. This disease, without a known cure, is a rare
abnormality at the base of the brain that results in brain tissue
extending into the spinal canal. Eventually, nerves and the center of
the spinal cord are damaged and can ultimately lead to paralysis.
Because of the family's limited resources, they have lived much of their
lives in a restored chicken coop with it's cracked windows and buckling
walls. That's about to change.
Thanks to Jeff Junkert Construction and thousands of volunteer hands,
there will be a race against the clock to give the Carter family the
home of their dreams! The crew has 106 hours to demolish their house and
rebuild. It's a job that would normally take at
least four months to achieve. The construction marathon will begin
Monday, June 25th at 8 a.m. as hundreds of volunteers storm and tear
down the house to build it anew. Will the team make it before the Carter
family returns on Saturday, June 30? The entire Billings area will have
to wait and see.
